Best of #TraegerWeek 2015

Thirty years ago, an idea was born that started a movement in outdoor cooking—a revolution of flavor that challenged the standard of taste set by gas and charcoal. That movement is fueled by our passion for outdoor cooking, our love for 100% natural wood-fired flavor, and creating handcrafted meals that bring people closer together. Join us in a tour of the new Traeger World HQ and feast your eyes on the best of #TraegerWeek. It was one helluva reason to gather.

Team Traeger Takes to the Sky for #TraegerWeek

It rained Traegerites on Tuesday, October 13th in Tooele, Utah when our CEO, Jeremy Andrus led the charge to make bold choices and forge ahead in the name of one of our company’s core values: Stand in the Fire.

Stand in the Fire means never feeling afraid to disrupt, take a risk, or push limits, even in the face of failure. Greatness was never achieved playing it safe, or hanging around in your comfort zone (or on the ground). Greatness starts with a spark from within that catches and grows into an uncontainable inferno.

Over 30 Traeger employees took to the sky to start #TraegerWeek off with a bang. They leapt from 13,500 feet in a death-defying free fall for upwards of 60 seconds—a literal leap of faith. These brave souls felt an exhilarating rush of adrenaline as the wind whipped through their hair and supported the weight of their body, at one with gravity.

For a split second, they could fly, and the whole wide world got a little bit smaller until the parachute cradled them to safety. That’s the beauty of taking a risk. You get that surge of energy during a moment of fear, and that’s when the magic happens. If you surrender to greatness, sky’s the limit. When asked to comment on the event, Andrus said, "Some companies have sales meetings. We jump out of planes."

Apple Bourbon Crisp Recipe

Apple Bourbon Crisp Recipe

Apple Bourbon Crisp Recipe

DIFFICULTY: 3/5
PREP TIME: 15 minutes
COOK TIME: 1 hour
RECOMMENDED PELLETS: Maple, Apple, Cherry
SERVES: 5-6

INGREDIENTS

Filling:
3 lbs. Apples, Granny Smith or Honey Crisp, peeled, and thinly sliced into wedges
1/2 cup Dried Cranberries (optional)
1/2 cup Brown Sugar, firmly packed
1/4 cup Honey or Agave syrup
2 ½ Tbsp. Bourbon
1 Tbsp. Lemon Juice, fresh
1 ½ tsp. Cinnamon, ground
1 tsp. Vanilla
Pinch of Salt

Topping:
1 cup Brown Sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup Flour
1/2 cup Old-Fashioned Oats
1/4 cup Walnuts
1 ½ tsp. Cinnamon, ground
8 Tbsp. (1 stick) Salted Butter, chilled, cut into 1/2 inch cubes, and extra for more buttering the skillet

METHOD

  • Generously butter the inside of a well-seasoned 12-inch cast iron skillet, and set aside.
  • In the bowl of a food processor, combine the brown sugar, flour, oats, walnuts, cinnamon, and butter. Pulse until the mixture is crumbly and still clumpy, and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine apples, cranberries, brown sugar, honey, bourbon, lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt. Stir gently to combine.
  • Pour the fruit mixture into the buttered skillet. Drop the topping evenly over the fruit.
  • When ready to cook, start your Traeger on Smoke with the lid open, until the fire is established (4 to 5 minutes). Set the temperature to 350°F and preheat, lid closed, for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Bake the apple crisp for about 1 hour, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is hot and bubbling.
  • Let cool for at least 30 minutes.
  • Scoop the crisp into individual bowls for serving, and drizzle with the melted ice cream.
